“No matter how sophisticated or wise or enlightened you believe you are, how you eat tells all.” – @GeneenRoth
Geneen Roth and I were talking about desire mapping. If you don’t know Geneen, she’s the author of the mega-successful Oprah fave, Women Food & God, and When Food Is Love. So yah, I was talking with Geneen about food and the psyche, naturally. “So how does desire mapping help my workshop women who are struggling with deep self esteem and eating issues?”
So then I referred to this story from a Desire Mapper:
“I have never been thin. I don’t have a skinny past, nor do I have hopes of a skinny future. However, since I began paying attention to how I want to feel, my food choices have changed. I love french fries but I always eat too many, which leaves me feeling bloated and miserable. But if I ask myself how I want to feel before I choose fries, I can say no without feeling deprived. Why would I want to feel bloated and miserable? It’s a revolutionary diet plan!”
And then Geneen and I got deeper into the psychology of aspirational feelings. And ended up talking about the changing landscape of publishing. Full circle.
Is your relationship to food and eating in line with your core desired feelings?
