Amen, Laura. Damn straight you can be smokin' hot and still be a feminist. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some lipgloss and a push-up bra to get acquainted with.

one more thing- loved the door-slammer part. Me too, except it wasn't good here in this 1850s house of ours. have to mock-slam now, or stamp upstairs loudly.

just the word slob..... both my husband and I work from home, and it can get pretty ugly, literally. And of course ugly just feels awful. VAVAVoom doesn't actually take much time or effort, and heaven knows it's so worth it. I also really like my teen boys to see me looking like me- I secretly hope that I am somebody's MILF, although I don't want to know about it or hear about it!
I'm much nicer, much happier, much more generous with those I love when I add a little sexy back.
I always say I don't mind aging that much as long as I have good hair and good earrings, which I am still blessed with having plenty of.

Timely!!! Thank you. Since pre-menopause slapped me in the face suddenly, I've been slipping in and out of a 'what's the point?' phase, feeling like the whole of nature's conspiring against me. Sleepless nights, an alien that's wrapped itself around my waistline and worst of all, crops of acne, for goodness sake! But one thing I've always done is wear perfume. Every single day and night, each fragrance chosen for the time or mood or place.

Beautifully put, Danielle. I don't own a pair of sweatpants for this very reason. At the end of a long day, fluffing my hair and putting a drop of perfume behind my ear helps remind me to honor both my lover and myself.

In my work (I do Energy Psychology, among other things), I hear a lot of very private confessions. Here's the scoop: the opposite of Sexy is Slob. Once your mate mentally attaches 'slob' to your name, the damage is done. Men have told me they cheat because their wives take on the look of "a wife." The attitudes and behaviours of "an old wife" are implied. Ouch - I know.

Best advice: treat all your family as though they were your best customers. Most people reserve their sparkle, humour, manners, thoughtfulness, charity and helpfulness for complete strangers.

What kind of life does that create?

I would agree. And even if the man at home is too busy to notice, how we show up for life affects how we feel about ourselves, and we want to be treated. My husband says he would love me no matter what I looked like, and as a result, i stopped working at it because I thought it didn't matter. Until someone else noticed me. And then I started working at it... I lost 20 pounds, I bought new clothes, and I never go out now with an attitude like it doesn't matter what I look like. It's about self-respect and embodying that, and professionalism, and yeah, my husband noticed too.

One of the reasons that my first marriage went bust is because the ex simply did not dress at home. All he would wear was the same pair of athletic shorts from HS that were literally falling off the elastic waistband, and an old tee shirt.
My forever husband and I make it a point to dress for each other. Sure, there comes a point when we agree its time to put on the "jamblies" (tee and flannel pants/shorts) to curl up together for a DVD.
Kudos to the brilliant lady, whomever she is, that created mineral makeup. Now I can even go to bed "with my face on" (which he loves) without aging my skin.
